Duke's DriveThe Dukes Drive, as it is known locally, was originally a carriage drive to the Duke of Westminister's Eaton Hall estate near the village of Eccleston known as Chester approach. It stretches from Overleigh just south of the Grosvenor Bridge to the heart of the estate.
It's entrance is marked with wrought iron gates which were built by Swindley's of Handbridge who also constructed the ironwork for Chester's famous Eastgate clock. The construction of the A55 North Wales Expressway road, in the early 1990's, severerd the drive near Eccleston isolating a two mile stretch to the North. This northerly section has since become a public wooded recreation area popular with families, dog walkers and joggers. |
